It will be more like an open studio that students can learn to draw what they would like to or paint. At the same time I will be doing instructional sessions on something that a student would like to learn, or something I think would add to our skill as we development in techniques and knowledge.

Weekend Open Studio classes: Instructor Arlie Hoffman otherwise Robert Smith will be conducting the Saturday classes starting September 26 from 1 pm - 4 pm
Working either in watercolour, oil or acrylic this class will help you further define and develop your own personal painting style under the guidance of a professional artist.
They will help you with your drawing, composition, perspective value and colour mixing and theory.

You'll gain a solid introduction to digital photography with an emphasis on D-SLR cameras and Adobe Photoshop in this 12-week (36-hour course). Learn when to trust the automatic features your camera offers, as well as when, and how, to take control manually if the situation demands. You'll learn metering and exposure methods, how to fine tune white balance, which ISO or file format to use and more. Discover how to optimize your camera for the subject matter and post-processing methods you use. The creative advantages of the RAW format are explored. Simple Photoshop techniques to maximize image optimization will improve the colour and tone of your digital outputs.

Participants should have a digital camera and a laptop running Adobe Photoshop.

Art Workshop For Beginners October 24, 10 am to 5 pm

We will explore the different kinds of materials, their uses, including the difference in quality of materials. Plus, learn how to take care of the brushes.
We will learn different techniques with watercolours and acrylic methods to achieve different ways of making things happen. We will experiment the different methods in painting rocks with textured techniques using gels, and explore many simple way of how to make watercolour work.
I will recommend good quality products some basic colors needed for acrylic and watercolours; burnt sienna, raw umber, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, white, raw sienna, cobalt blue, sap green, orange, viridian, yellow ochre, heavy gel medium, some Nepheline gel coarse and painting knifes
Bring some photographs to use as reference if you like.

Learn techniques and approaches to stimulate your creativity while enriching your outdoor experiences with this two-day nature photography workshop. You'll learn ideal camera settings for various common conditions, how to see and frame creative compositions from the visual chaos the northern forest offers up. Basic equipment and helpful accessories will be discussed.


There will be a special emphasis on close-up or macro photography. Dress for the weather with shoes suitable for hiking and bring your camera gear, tripod and bag lunch.

Photographing Artwork Workshop
Saturday September 12, 9 am to 4 pm.

A hands-on workshop for artists interested in learning simple, inexpensive techniques to produce quality photographic representations of their two and three dimensional artwork for use on websites, online jury submissions or brochures.
Equipment, optimum camera settings, backgrounds, lighting, dealing with unwanted reflections, and difficult subjects such as very small or polished objects are discussed and demonstrated before participants use provided lighting and staging to experiment and gain experience photographing their own drawings, paintings, jewellery and sculpture.

Participants should bring artwork, camera and tripod. Do not forget your camera manual.
Manuals can be found online if you have misplaced yours.

In the weekly classes students will be given an opportunity to explore some basic drawing skills and learn about the wonders of painting with watercolour, acrylic and oils, etc. We will learn about the materials we are using and how to use them properly to achieve the best results. Children will be encouraged to be creative and experiment with the mediums and develop their new art skills. The sessions are all about fun, learning, self expression and being creative. All materials needed for these classes such as drawing paper, graphite, charcoal, erasers, paint brushes, watercolour paper, watercolour paints and so on, are included in the class fee. Your child will learn and experiment with the following techniques:

• drawing basic shapes
• creating form and contour
• using shadow and highlights
• cross hatching• colour mixing
• warm and cool colours
• watercolour washes
• applying colour in layers
